Who’s Stan? I dunno but it rhymed.  And if we can’t do things just for the sake of a rhyme, why do anything at all ever again?

First off, (well, actually I guess second since technically that Stan thing was first) I want to say thank you for all those really nice comments on Monday’s post.  As you could probably tell I was a bit down and I really appreciate the support.  I wasn’t aware that the blog was already doing so much good – kinda makes me all warm and fuzzy inside (which is an odd feeling for me :P ).  So, with that in mind, I’m going to try to do a couple posts a week and have had a few people email me about guest posting.

I’m really excited to get some guest posters on board as that will allow me to concentrate on more work with rescues – which is where my heart really lies. With that in mind, if you’re at all interested in guest posting (sporadically or regularly) please email me – snarkyriderblog@gmail.com.

I’ve applied for a writing mentorship thingy so if I get in, I may have to dial back even more – but we’ll see!  I’m thinking I might not get it.  I’m pretty sure on my application I didn’t note that my writing sample was a very rough first draft… yikes.

Who are the mentors in the mentorship? On what kind of writing do want to be mentored? I am a published mystery writer.

Really?! I was looking to use it for writing a novel that I’m working on (I believe it falls under the paranormal fiction category). It was kind of the next best thing since I’ll never be able to afford to go to school for writing.

      Can I email you? (snarkyriderblog@gmail.com)

  6. You don’t need to go to school for writing, Snarky! You have talent, and just need to hone craft. I’d suggest joining a writer’s group (If none meet locally or if they’re all run by assholes, there are a number of online groups), getting critiques, and above all, WRITING. A lot.

Except there is no mention of HYPP testing on him – nor could they even be bothered to halter him for the 3 pictures, makes me wonder how much of what they say is true. It takes me 2 seconds to halter my horses, they truly ARE friendly…

Otherwise, nice that he’s fat and healthy and not on the slaughter truck threatening route!

Well, I didn’t say the add was perfect. Those are not the best confo shots either. But at least they GELDED him!

If he is indeed foundation bred, there is likely no link back to Impressive, so no need for HYPP testing.

Hey, Snarky, remember the Block Colt story? Turns out a rescue stepped up and pay for the costs to euth the poor thing. It’s sort of a bitter sweet story, but at least he won’t suffer anymore.

For those who don’t know the story this is the original ad:
    “Hello,
I have a black well bred colt who was born 43 days late and still is having prob he has a bad canna bone in the laft front leg was have a vet bill that needs to be paid and We don’t want to put him down or take to the auction I would just give him away for a pasture mate but we need help with paying off this vet bill, He can he paperd but I’m not going to give them to how ever get him, He is sweet I had to bottel feed him for the frist 3 days of his life, he now is 2 months old and still need alot of help as his dam dosen’t let him nurse very much. I would like to get want we owe the vet $475.00 out of him if some one paid that I just might give a app for reg to them. the vet said he could be fix with a 50/50 % chance of him walking on it right he can run with out a prob but walking he is very slow and lays around alot. He is the great grandson of Peppy San Badger on Top side and Three Bars on botton and is a 20% linebred THREE BARS QH..”

    And the shot on CL:

Last but not least, what happened to the colt in the rescuer’s own words:
“I am Lisa from Day Dreams Farm Equine Rescue:
We went today and picked up the black colt (which really wasn’t even black). The pictures seen on the craigslist ad only told a bit of the story. Much of his windswept problem had actually straightened out. That pic was taken right after birth. Unfortunately, he DID suffer from a shattered ankle. She said he had been walking around like that for at least 6 weeks but believed it would straighten out on it’s own. This was neglect and cruelty, PERIOD. Had she properly cared for him, he would have been viable, but instead he suffered and was in great pain. The bloodflow below the ankle was compromised and that resulted in an open ulcer on his coronary band. Yes, we did pay the vet bill to get him out of here, however, she didn’t get a dime. I read her the riot act, but unfortunately, I truly don’t think she even cared. But, he no longer suffers and that is the goal of our rescue. He didn’t even have a name. My son named him Jackson just before we buried him.”

I rescued a little filly who I think was even worst than this little guy.Her mom was sent to slaughter and she would have been turned out on the range to fend for herself with 11 other foals that I also rescued. If they live they live if they die, well the “owner” doesn’t care. She was approximately 6 weeks old!
We had her operated on and she will be three this October and she LOVES to run! She runs between the feed bins, and is always pestering the other horses to play.
Her fetlock is still a little off, but she is a delight and brings me joy every day! P.S. her surgery was less than my dogs dental surgery! and worth every penny.
