After viewing this video the first time there were a few things that popped into my head:

-Round and round we go, where we stop, nobody knows!

-That horse is going to have some very strong muscles on the under side of his neck!

-There’s something to be said for a rustic setting with such charming facilities (if you’ve watched Gilmore Girls, season 5, when Lorelai brings Luke for dinner with Emily, you’ll know what I mean!)

-I’m a baller baby!

-Piiiimp

And the lesson we’ve all learned from this? Pimps have no place around young, impressionable women horses.

    What I learned:
A jerk on the head means “Go”.
They make lunge lines WAY too long: you only need three feet or so!
A kick on the leg means “Hands on the car and spread ‘em.”

Wow, watching that second video I so desperately wanted to just grab the little guy, give him a nice fat snaffle, rip his saddle off then pop him on a loose rein and let him wander on down the beach.

Maybe give him a good human experience.

Why on earth do you need the tight rein on a curb?

Was it just my dirty, college mind… or does the narrator sound like he’s touching himself while he’s filming?

      XD

Poor horse, still. But OMG can’t stop laughing at these “hood” dipshits.

Only thing I could think of was “Gimmie some of them french fried pertaters! Mmmhmm”(sling blade reference in case you didn’t know).

Lol at the second video that was posted of that guy riding… literally in the yard of an apartment complex. Think he keeps that horse in the garage or the spare bedroom of his apartment? Very beautiful saddlebred, I really do feel awful for it. That’s going to take years of good, patient, decent training to reverse.

Poor little horse, he does not look all that old. Three did someone say? I would say that young one needs another half year or more before someone gets up on his back. Cute little fellow (the horse, not the idiot rope slinger). Give the poor colt some room to move his feet!

Poor horse is so confused! Even when he goes into “show stance”, he’s looking for direction or encouragement. Heck, I was confused trying to figure out what he’s trying to teach the horse to do. This nice-looking horse also seems very jumpy, afraid of being hit again.

But I do need to ask why the guy was dubbed a pimp? I thought pimps wore expensive clothes and shoes. Seemed like an irrelevant label in this case….

AHHH!!! My eyes!! Egad!!! STOP YANKING!!! I’m going to go find ol’ Lepo, hogtie him, throw him in the back of my truck, and drive him to a Buck Brannaman clinic. Poor little baby looks like a cutie with nice, floaty movement, but he’s going to leave ‘ol Lepo as a basket case :(

  18. Poor baby is going to be tied up in knots and absolutely fried before he’s fully mature from that forceful, ignorant, jackass handling. Don’t get me wrong, when one of my horses needs a Come To Jesus, they get it…but when I am working with them, I try to set them up for success, not failure and mental instability.

  19. Eww, just watched about ten seconds of the riding…Had to stop, because the theory that a horse under saddle could actually move with it’s chest IN FRONT OF it’s head blew my mind, and now I have to rethink my entire existance.

Nope, couldn’t finish watching. OK then… aside from this guy being a supreme moron, who wouldn’t understand the meaning of lunge if it hit him in the balls, why the fucks is he kicking that poor baby to make him stretch his front legs?? Anyone?

He’s parking out. The horse is a Saddlebred. Look it up.

      • Icy Rider:

Correction: He’s making the horse park out BADLY (like everything else about this guy’s videos). Horse is TOTALLY over-stretched – the front legs are supposed to be perpendicular to the ground (can’t even count how many people do this wrong, from over-stretching to parking with a rider in the saddle or while mounting. Ugh.)

And this is why people dislike Saddlebreds and Saddlebred people. Cause idiots like that give us nice ones a bad name. =| If you look in the first video of him trying to get him to park- He doesn’t even have the poor boy set up to do it right. I got my gelding parking out at least a tad (for halter classes) within a day or two.

That will be another lost cause of a Saddlebred- once ASB’s are gone.. they’re hard to get back. =[

WOW.. my saddlebred x was quite likely trained as a youngster by some @$$hat like him. I got her at 2 1/2 and she wasn’t broke to ride.. but her brain was GONE… It took a bit of “join up”, and then good ole fashion horse training. She is a great trail horse, a good parade horse but is a lost cause as a show horse. I have only ever ridden her in a snaffle. And most of my friends (except 1) think she is a total nut job. But I loves her, and will never never EVER get rid of her.
Gorgeous baby… terrible pimp man… talk about “pimping his ride”.. ACK!

  27. Katie:

I’m not going to defend the training, but WTF is up with your racism? And the racism of so many commenters? There is no reason to call this guy a “baller” or a “pimp” or refer to his “g-walk” or how “hood” he is except that he’s black. I don’t feel so much like I want to slap him upside the head because I’d much rather slap all you racists upside the head. You all know that black people are, you know, people, right, not just characters in rap videos?

    • snarkyrider:

Yeah, it’s not the color of his skin that makes me sarcastically think “pimp” – it’s the clothes. I’m pretty sure white dudes can be pimps too. If and/or when I find a video of a white dude dressed similarly to this guy, I will likely call him a pimp too. I wish I could remember that quote from that movie or something about the clothes making the man.

      • Katie:

In what universe to “pimps” dress like the man in the video? He looks nothing like the stereotypical image of a pimp. Except the color of his skin.

Do a google image search on the word “pimp” and tell me what the similarities are between the man in the video and te men in the photos.

        • Icy Rider:

Ummm… are you stuck in the 70s or something? Pimps nowadays tend to dress like this – or at least all of the ones I’ve seen do. Doesn’t matter if they’re Black, White, Asian, Latino, Hispanic, Native American or Martian.

        • snarkyrider:

Hmm that sounds a bit racist yourself, “He looks nothing like the stereotypical image of a pimp. Except the color of his skin.” Since when are all pimps black?

          • Katie:

I’m talking about othe people’s stereotypes, not mine. I live in a huge city and have seen my fair share of pimps and prostitutes, and still can’t figure out what you think the man in this video has to do with pimping. Can you tell me what makes him a “baller”?

        • Janalina:

As a veteran of urban living I have to inform you that pimps don’t actually dress like Huggy Bear on Starsky and Hutch, they dress like this guy. It’s not 1970, pimp style has evolved.

    • Janalina:

Take a deep breath. If this was a white guy dressed like this pretending to train a horse I would probably call him a pimp or a gangsta. It is more about the style of dress and the macho attitude than the color of his skin.

I can’t watch the video yet since I am at work but I can answer based on the photo still. The extra long shorts that come between the knee and ankle and athletic shoes are what “ballers” wear. I generally think of good horse trainers in jeans and boots since I am from Oklahoma.

How can you all not understand how disgustingly, blatantly racist these terms are? Using terms that have long been associated with black people to label someone who is black (and then saying it’s just the way he’s dressed as if you have first-hand knowledge of this, and that it you’d be sayin the same thig if he was white -yeah, right) is WRONG. We do not live in a post-racial world where calling a black man a pimp or baller is acceptable because a white person could hypothetically be a pimp or baller, and there’s no history of oppression and hatred and stigma associated.

The terms “pimp,” “baller,” and “black man” are not interchangeable.

The man’s a bad trainer. The people on this board are racist and don’t want to believe or understand it.

      • Katie:

Oh, and it’s news to me that there’s a stereotypical style of dress for “ballers”… Or are you just describing clothes sometimes seen on young urban black men?

  29. desilover:

No, I am describing the clothes seen on ALL the players (men and women of a wide range of colors) that we (players in the league) call ballers – we call those that wear these clothes but have no skills wannabes :)

Where do you think the term baller comes from? A short linguistics lesson for you – it is derived from the term ball player. It is based on the clothing style of long baggy shorts first popularised by Michael Jordon.

You are the racist and sexist one for automatically assuming that baller has to refer to “young urban black men” – it refers to ball players and their style of clothes. So based his fashion choices, yes he dresses in baller clothing – now whether or not he is a wannabe baller or not is beside the point.

But there is the one thing all of us can agree on – all together now – he is a crap horse trainer.

honestly I can see the terrible training that is going one here. But at the same time, you guys lost me with the “bashing” of this man. You do not know his history, or what he has been taught. I have had some of the best intentioned people come through my barn without a real shred of true horsemanship. To be honest, most of the time, Horsemanship is not inborn, it is learned. So if he has never been taught, bashing him is not really fair. Before i was taught better I Have myself made some pretty huge mistakes.
and to desilover , If i can just call b*llsh*t on your explanation for the term Baller. there is no way in hell that anyone on this thread was thinking about Micheal Jordan or any ball player when they wereposting things like : “Look Honey! Look! I’m lunging dat liddle old Saddlebred o’ yours!”(I thought our culture outgrew the propaganda speak.) or “STOP YANKING!!! I’m going to go find ol’ Lepo, hogtie him, throw him in the back of my truck, and drive him to a Buck Brannaman clinic.” (Who’s to say ol’ Lepo would not go to the clinic willingly and you would have to hog tie him… and also I am pretty sure Buck, while he may be blunt about this man’s methods of training would not be unkind to him.) and one of my favorites, “A kick on the leg means “Hands on the car and spread ‘em.” (Holy… The words for how this makes me feel are not P.G. enough to post. This IS nothing but DIRT. All I can say is SHAME!)
I can seriously see where Katie would see racism, As a black cowgirl, I deal with people’s misconceptions all the time. While I voluntarily read all comments, I have to say, I was surprised, with the intolerance. I was raised that if you see something wrong in what is happening, to try to help fix it. But hell, I guess that’s not the world we are in anymore.
In my honest opinion, you guys should be very careful what slurs/ opinions you are voicing. People come on this site not only to see crazy mind boggling mistakes, and different outrageous things, but I know I come on because a lot of you have very honest and great opinions.
Unfortunately one comment led to another and it just shows how things can spiral into something that is not even close to being correct or constructive.
Katie , I am on your page, I understand the point that you are trying to make… behavior and comments like the ones I have read are in fact… as unacceptable as the “training” in the video. Thank you for voicing an intelligent opinion.
This is my OPINION. An opinion of someone who has lived through the horse world’s and the outside world’s preconceived notions that because I am black I am not as good as, or harder than others. This man has just about the same chances of being a “thug, pimp, G, or baller,” as you or I have. So lets concentrate on his horsemanship, and not what he is wearing, walking like, talking like or what color he may be… just afford him the same “courtesy” that you would hope to get from a bunch of people hiding behind their computer screens and screen names.

I can understand all the comments about the concern about racism but at the same time it isn’t productive to attack someone that just gives an honest answer about why someone would be called a baller based on clothing choice; espec if the response to the answer shows little understanding of the term. Being close-minded and judmental about information that was solicited shows a lack of maturity and tolerance itself.

I have spent most of my adult life as a very noticable minority in a variety of countries and cultures and one thing that this discussion has brought to the front is that apperances and actions immediately impact on how people judge each other. Fair? No, but much in life isn’t. This lack of judgement is one reason I love horses and other animals, they don’t judge based on clothing or apperances only on our actions and interactions with them.

I felt a bit like the horse in the video. Katie asked for something, I provided an answer but somehow she still wasn’t happy and attacked. She didn’t ask about whether or not it was fair to call him a baller, only what would lead to that term being used as a descripter. If she asked about the fairness of the term she would have gotten a differnt answer. When you call people out for bad behaviour you need to be sure that you aren’t modeling bad behaviour yourself.
