Here’s Jet!
Jet is a four year old, black gelding. He is at the upper end of the scale here, standing at just under 10 hands high. Last summer, Jet and three others were sent down to us from the SPCA in the Interior. All four had been left tied to stakes in the bush, with little food and water. They were very scared of humans, having suffered various abuses. Jet was the worst off physically, a living skeleton who walked down on his fetlocks. It was months before he was fit enough even to be gelded, but he has now made an amazing recovery. Jet has retained his sense of humour through it all and is a very curious and interactive boy. He does still have some handling issues and so needs a consistent and compassionate home to help him conquer the last of his fears.

Aww. Poor little guy STILL needs a few more groceries, doesn’t he. How do people get a SHETLAND (or cross, but that’s definitely a classic Shetland head on the guy) that thin?
Actually he looks very healthy. His body condition is perfect. It would be dangerous since he is so small to let him get any fatter.
He’s CUTE!!! I aplaud the work going into making him a horse again instead of a stick horse.
Jennifer i’ve seen shetlands in skin and bone conditions that make him look fat. People buy them because the shetland is cute and the people are dumb. They think all they have to do is put them in the back yard. Its kinda like a statis symbol.
AND people think classic Shetlands are somehow the perfect pony for their three year old.
In the dictionary next to ‘evil pony’ there is a picture of a Shetland! Trust me. I love them. I think they are the most adorable things ever, but I would not trust one with my toddler…even though one was trusted with me and I made it through okay
.
Now if you want uber cute, do a video search on ‘Shetland Grand National’. Trust me. It might even beat mini chuck wagons. Maybe.
“The smaller the pony, the closer to Hell.”
