THE PRICE!!

“12 year old large Welsh Pony named Patty who is absolutely amazing. He is very sweet. He drives, jumps, hunts, and has schooled up to 2nd level dressage. This is a once in a lifetime pony. He can do it all and is very willing and wants to please. He is registered and has no vices. Priced firmly at $25,000. “

Exsqueeze me? Baking powder?  You want how much for a pony that isn’t even currently going?  Oh sure, the ad doesn’t say he’s not currently doing 2nd level dressage or driving or any of that other fun stuff, but one look at his unmuscled neck tells me he ain’t.  And that it’s been a while since he has.  What is it about this horse that makes him worth $25,000?

Please do tell!

This may just be a person who really doesn’t want to sell their pony, so priced it outrageously to have the excuse that it won’t sell. If my parents ever tried to get me to sell my horse, I would price him too high so he purposely wouldn’t sell!

Then again, they could just be delusional.

  3. It’s gotta be a typo (she says hopefully). I checked the other ponies for sale by the same person, and they range from $2000 – $6000. Nothing over $6000. I’m thinking maybe the person meant $2500?

I don’t mean to sound harsh, but having had Welsh ponies, this one doesn’t look all that typey. For $25K, I’d expect an excellent pedigree, multiple hunter championship wins, a show record as long as my arm, etc. This little guy looks like he’d make a nice Pony Clubber.

Haha, there’s one quite a bit like him up in BC, Canada. He was originally $23,000 which is Xtra spechul… but $11,000 is still a little reaching for a pony who wins the the high point in flat classes at the local shows. http://forums.hcbc.ca/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=29559

…and that is certainly a top-notch stable facility in the background, certainly worthy of housing a 25K prince among ponies :)

    But, but,it’s a PALOMINO!

  8. Hah, like the person who said the pony doesn’t look particularly typey, I’d believe it was a Haflinger before I’d believe it was Welsh.

(nothing wrong with Haflingers, I think they’re adorable, I’m just saying that’s what he looks more like to me)

And ‘Patty’ makes me think mare, not gelding. They could’ve at least called him ‘Paddy’! Or maybe that’s just me. :)

What is it about this horse that makes him worth $25,000?

    Please do tell!

Because…she knows someone who once sold a palomino Welsh pony for 25K?

Oh oh I got it! Its because their charging for his “gold”en coat? Brings to mind the Dodge pickup we looked at the other day, they want 99,000 for it. Yeap not a typo thats what they want. Looked for the gold plated engine but didnt find it :(

Is it me, or just the photo, but his head looks HUGE.

  14. Looks like a Haflinger to me. Doesn’t look Welsh at all. Either way, not worth the price unless he also washing the dishes and folds the clothes, as well as doing what a zillion other ponies in the world can do. His neck sure doesn’t look like he’s working too hard under saddle or in harness either. Just about any horse who can w/t/canter can do 2nd level dressage. Nothing particulairly unusual or special about that.

Could you please inform my mare that “any horse who can w/t/canter can do 2nd level dressage”? Our medium trot is iffy and our half-pass is blase… oh and our transitions are more girrafe than equine, but we certainly have three gaits…or did you not mean do 2nd level well.

It’s not a typo. They had him listed on several other sites at that price. I was shocked about it too. Also I’m from the area and it was really weird to see an add for multiple ponies. I thought I was the only one with ponies for sale here!

Geeze, the typo theory was the only one that made sense. There are plenty of people who will pay $25,000 (or more) for a good pony… but for that kind of buyer to even pick up the phone, the picture darn well better show that pony in the ring at an A-circuit show with its knees up to its eyeballs and a cute expression on its face as it carefully packs a small child around on the way to a ribbon.

If someone claims in an ad that a horse/pony jumps and there’s no picture from a show (or at least a darn good schooling photo) then I assume the seller actually means “someone managed to flop over an x-rail on it once and survived, so let’s say it jumps”. Rinse and repeat for the hunting, driving and dressage claims…

  17. Um, aside from not being “typy” for his breed, not having the muscles, not being groomed up to the $25,000 price tag (slick coat, combed mane and tail, polished hooves, nicer background, etc.), that sure looks like a heave line to me. I had a mare with heaves and that is what her line looked like…
